BNI MIAMI TAKES GROUNDBREAKING STEPS FOR INTERNATIONAL NETWORKING WEEK BNI led the way as Miami joined in the celebration of International Networking Week - February 4-8, 2008 – with an amazing event that pulled together people from across Dade County. The Honorable Don Slesnick, Mayor of Coral Gables issued an official PROCLAMATION to BNI honoring International Networking Week and the role networking plays in business development and success worldwide, on behalf of the City of Coral Gables. BNI Miami-Dade made major strides in creating a cross-networking, high profile event for International Networking Week. In an effort to ‘tear down the walls’ between organizations, BNI, together with the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, Mount Sinai Medical Center Young Presidents Club and the Family Resource Center, brought more than 60 members and visitors to the Coral Gables Country Club to cross network, expand contact spheres and learn about the value of relationship networking. This is just the beginning folks…plans are already in the works for an expanded celebration in 2009 that will see more organizations, more networking tips and tools, plus international flavor to Miami’s festivities. FIRST BNI FAMILY DAY ALSO FIRST RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE That’ right…BNI Miami-Dade was a part of the FIRST EVER Rumble in the Jungle at Jungle Island this past January. More than 120 BNI members, family and friends were on-hand for a day of fun in the sun. Family Day is here to stay as an annual BNI Miami event. Plans are already in the works for next year’s event.

The Butterfly Effect and Relationship Networking Excerpt from Ivan Misner’s Blog The “Butterfly Effect” is the theory that a small action in one place creates a dramatic action in another place…like a pebble in a pond creating ripples on the surface. For networking, it is about how a seemingly minor connection or conversation with one person may, after many ripples across the network, end in a dramatic connection later in the process. One specific incident for me started several years ago when a woman I didn’t know (Kim George, who’s now a good friend) asked if I would be willing to help with the creation of an online networking and social capital community. This relationship turned into a strategic alliance, which turned into a speaking engagement, which allowed me to meet Jack Canfield (co-author of Chicken Soup for the Soul), which led to an invitation from Jack to participate in an international organization called the Transformational Leadership Council, which led to meeting Nancy Salzman, owner of NXIVM Training. Getting to know Nancy led to an invitation for my wife and me to spend five days on Necker Island with financial wizards of business, movie producers and successful business leaders such as Sir Richard Branson! The ripples that take place in the networking process may not be clear when the pebble drops into the water and the ripple begins…but it’s there. Follow that ripple and make the most of the contacts that you meet during along the way, and it can lead you to making connections and creating relationships that you never imagined!
